Thoughts on the Bebop and Rocksteady Classic Collection Figures

I kind of hate them. Ok, I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them. They’re the coolest Bebop and Rocksteady figures ever and they’re going to be huge and super detailed. I’ll buy at least two and I’ll spam Instagram with pictures. But I’m kind of disappointed. The promise of the Classic Collection to me was finally having figures that were screen accurate to the 80s cartoon characters. Bebop and Rocksteady are the figures I wanted to get that treatment the most, and I’ve been waiting to get a look at them forever.

I think the sculpt of the bodies is awesome, the accessories look perfect, and the size compared to the Turtles looks spot on. The heads just look wrong to me though. They’re too serious, too realistic looking, and too wrinkly. Seriously, what’s with all the wrinkles?

Bebop and Rocksteady are goofy as hell. They’re always smiling and cutting wise, and even when they’re frowning or trying to look tough they look ridiculous. Everything about these figures is awesome to me, but the heads just look weird. I’m sure it’s just me and like I said, I’ll still get them, but what do you think?

Head over to Toy News International for more photos and a video of Playmates’ booth at Toy Fair, which has some awesome new toys in the Nickelodeon line.

  • I think it is the detailing and the lack of cartoon eyes on Rocksteady. Bebop is also way too in shape and ripped.

  • To be honest, the arms are weird to me. I know it’s part of the limits of the sculpt+articulation, but Rocksteady’s shoulders and upper biceps are MASSIVE while the rest of his arms are normal. Bebop’s upper arms are way oversized which make his forearms look tiny. And yeah, I agree, they are too ripped in general. Rocksteady didn’t have abs, he had a potbelly. They’re cool but ultimately a little disappointing to me.

  • I still think the Turtles in the Classics line look mildly retarded. Their eyes just don’t look right to me.Bebop & Rocksteady look decent enough, though. I don’t really get the complaints. Then again, they are not my favorite characters so maybe I’m just not as demanding of perfection? 😉

    • I think I just wish the heads looked a little more cartoony.

yeah I’m meh about them also. I haven’t bought any of the classics line and won’t start with these. for a line that is supposed to be about nostalgia and fun, they’re seriously lacking in both.

    • Other than the cross-eyedness, I love the classic Turtles.

  • I agree – I think they look awesome and probably will fit in great with more ‘serious’ lines like DCUC and Marvel Legends but, wasn’t the promise of the TMNT Classics line a cartoon accurate figure? They will now just end up looking bad against the Classic turtles because the turtles are so cartoony, and the cohesion of the line is in jeopardy.

Of course I say this as someone who has no interest in the Classic Turtles figures, precisely because they are so cartoony and that’s not my fave turtle iteration, but I imagine this move towards ‘realism’ in Bebop and Rocksteady will disappoint many fans (who will probably buy them anyways.)

I might even buy them myself, as they may look pretty good with the Nick Turtles (esp Riocksteady who’s extra large size could be excused, as he is a mutant Rhino!)

    • Good point, they will look great with the Nick Turtles.
